Christmas box

This morning I worked my last shift in Oxfam - time for a change.

A customer produced this brass box, in which she was carrying her money. It is one of the original Princess Mary tins which were sent out to all British sailors and soldiers at the front at Christmas time in 1914. Remarkable to see - I knew nothing about them. They contained cigarettes, chocolates, pens and other small gifts. This one had belonged to the customer's step-father's brother, one of the few who returned alive from that dreadful conflict.

I wish all blippers a Peaceful Christmas.
