"THE RACE IS ON"

A crowded Sydney to Hobart race start as five super maxis, Perpetual Loyal, Ragamuffin, Comanche, Wild Oats XI and Brindabella all jockey closely for position as they cross the start line (marked by the yellow buoy) at 13:00 hours and followed by another 112 yachts.

At 21:30 Comanche was leading Wild Oats XI by 2.3 nautical miles followed by Ragamuffin and Perpetual Loyal a few miles behind. Brindabella unfortunately has had to retire with damaged rudder bearings along with five other boats in today's punishing conditions.
