Our Journey is a process

The Nose Knows

I am always amazed at the sensitivity of a dog's nose.  I took a sealed container of goose liver pate' from the refrigerator and set it on the table with some crackers as an appetizer before dinner tonight.  Wally and Peri were fast asleep on the living room floor.  Within a second of unsealing the container, both dogs were wide awake and looking to see where the lovely fragrance was coming from.  Once they identified the location of the alluring aroma, they were quick to come and sit quietly, but very anxiously at my feet.  They both know that I really don't like them "begging" from the table, so they almost fell over each other to lie down on the nearby rug - without a command from me!  I knew when I saw them do this that they really thought this must be something very special and they really wanted to try some.  Yes, I am a very big softy, and smeared some of the pate on a cracker for each of them.  T hey obviously ate their crackers with great relish, licking their chops over and over afterward to make sure they got ever minuscule crumb. Then, they once again laid down on the rug, with both tails wagging at a rapid rate.   By this time, we were all enjoying their "show" of good behavior.  Obviously, obedience training really works when treats are involved.  And, yes, they did get another "taste", and they thoroughly enjoyed it.  As soon as the pate' was finished, they clearly showed their boredom, and went back to the usual napping.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments and stars on yesterday's sunset!
