(tune in tomorrow for the next thrilling instalment of "When Geese Chat")

A sure sign that the holidays are in full swing: I had no idea what day of the week it was. Monday apparently. Which means that we had invited friends for dinner - all hands on deck.

The morning was quiet (+1/2 went out for a frosty run) with some pancakes for breakfast followed by some more NAS tinkering. Copying data off the iMac has really underlined that the Apple OS X developers just shouldn't be trusted with your data. What a colossal mess.

After a quick lunch, +1/3 and I went off to the coup to drop off some rubbish only to find it closed (doh) then to Sainsbury's the buy food for dinner finally followed with a quick trip to Grovelands Park where there were a lot of excited birds and it was very cold.

Back to make dinner - steak with a stilton butter, warm salad of beetroot and shallots, green beans and broccoli followed by some lactose-free rice pudding with ginger and orange and some spiced poached peaches (cardamom, cinnamon, clove and some chilli flakes). All went swimmingly until the pudding - I was so engrossed in a conversation about schools (no, really) that I managed to leave the peaches on the stove and the syrup was cremated. Gah! A quick syrup later and we were back on track but it just wasn't the same. Bah! Despite the hiccup the food was all eaten along with plenty of Christmas cake, panettone, coffee and wine.

I'm not sure the pan is going to recover.
