Kelston Round Hill

Another day, another walk.

Off to Kelston Round Hill, from Swineford.

This hill is close to the edge of Bath but can clearly be seen from many points in Bristol, including outside Phil's house!

It's a great looking hill but in all the years I have lived in Bristol I'd never been to the top.

Off we went, 3 families with assorted children, up an incredibly muddy path for some  miles before we got to the top.

An incredible view can be had from here - in one direction Bath and beyond, South towards Somerset and West towards Bristol, Keynsham, the Severn bridges and beyond to Wales.

Anyway, we nibbled on a bit of Christmas cake and I managed to get half a sandwich. Back down through the mud and along a path which was more stream than bridleway.

Home, via Aldi. Living the New Years' Eve dream, then?

This place has a special feel. It seems like an unspoilt, ancient place that would have looked as it is to people centuries ago.

That's not actually true as I think trees were only planted a century or so ago but there are hints that there may be some sort of barrow underneath.

We had a chat about resolutions, Cornish beaches and holiday plans.

Happy New Year!
