93% Illuminated

The Moon today is in a Waxing Gibbous phase. This phase is when the moon is more than 50% illuminated but not yet a Full Moon. The phase lasts round 7 days with the moon becoming more illuminated each day until the Full Moon.  Tonight 93% of the moon is illuminated with the full moon due on the 5th Jan.

There was a slight halo round the Moon tonight which meant that there was not a clearly defined edge between the Moon and the darkness.  This is apparently caused by ice crystals in the upper atmosphere.
