The Old Bridge

Berwick Upon Tweed is only an hour's drive away but we have never been there so we nipped down to explore on this chilly but bright day.

We looked at The Old Bridge for the classical photo, then walked by the river below the newer Royal Tweed Bridge to the viaduct of the Royal Border Bridge, which carries the main railway line, to the ruins of the mediæval castle close by.

Heading up to the town we wandered along the C16 ramparts, (being careful not to fall down the steep, unprotected sides) as far as the
barracks and back into the town to stroll back to the car.

It's yet another place we resolve to return for a longer visit, especially if the weather is as nice as today.
