What a present!

The creature (is it an ostrich?) wasn't half as amazed as I was when I unwrapped my Christmas present (it's really satisfying when not-so-subtle hints are picked up on).
This is Graham Johnson's magnum opus: a massive three-volume publication based on the magnificent booklet notes which accompanied the Hyperion Records Schubert Edition of the complete songs. The original notes have been expanded and amplified, resulting in an indispensable musicological triumph for anyone as interested as I am in the music of Franz Schubert. The perfect gift.
