Native Blue Damselfly

On my early morning walk around the Government Gardens, I stopped by the big water lilies pond to photograph the many species of summer dragon flies that flit about above the water like little remote helicopters. The 8 cm long native electric blue damselflies (maori name Kerewai) added a splash of bright colour among the other brown-black dragonflies. This damselfly settled on a nearby blade of grass for a few seconds before taking off again
