Life In The Fast Lane

We've spent all day wandering around the streets of Hanoi. Firstly with an Aussie food guide and blogger who got us to eat things I'd never have dared eat in a million years at home, such as coffee with raw egg in it! Sounds disgusting but it was sweetened and whipped and tasted, as he said like Tiramisu.
The way you cross the roads in Hanoi is that you just step off the kerb and wander across, and all the traffic, mostly scooters, just seems to avoid you by some magic or other. The noise and the car horns and the traffic and the chaos has to be seen to be believed. Into this mix of mayhem and bonkersness throw two timid English country mice such as LooseCanon and myself, who tend to twitch the curtains if a car drives through our village after about ten o'clock at night, and it's a wonder we survived.
Later we went out to see a water puppet show, as one does, and had a beer overlooking what would be an orderly roundabout at home, and had great fun watching the totally unconcerned locals just walking straight across.
Unbelievable.
