A Year Through My Eyes

Hot water beach and Black water rafting

Now yesterdays photo wouldn't upload so here is yesterdays and todays journal entry.

Hot water beach

14.05.12

We travelled from Auckland over to Hot Water Beach which by day looked pretty average. Torrential rain all day didn't really enthuse many people to do much.

However at 7 pm we headed down for low tide at hot water beach and started digging at the far side. The deeper we dug, the hotter the water thanks to the geothermic activity. Was pretty cool being able to dig or own little spa pools, but were thankful for the sea water as the temp just kept rising!

Black water rafting

15.05.12

So this morning we travelled from the east coast over to the west coast ish to Waitomo which is home to a labyrinth of caves, these are full of glow worms.

So the five of us (myself, aime, sam, dan and geoff) ventured into the 'black abyss', now I should add that yesterday the caves were shut due to flooding, luckily it had receeded enough (just) for us to go down.

It started with a 35m abseil down into the caves, followed by a zip wire in the dark with just the glow worms illuminating the cave. Followed by tubing on the underwater current before ditching the tubes and swimming/walking through the caves before scaling two waterfalls to get out! (only time I got stuck was literally climbing out! Foot got wedged!)

Either way, was awesome!

This blip is from the caves!
