Vision Center

Today I finagled my way into a tour of one of Aravind's Vision Centers, an eye care telemedicine micro-facility run by two industrious sisters who screen remote village patients for all manner of eye ailments.  With the help of a physician back in the main hospital (and web cams, the internets, etc.) these vision centers are able to screen about 10% of Aravind's total annual patient volume.

A group of Harvard School of Public Health students are observing and analyzing Aravind's Vision Centers (mostly in Madurai, but here in Pondy for the day).  They are hoping that through their analyses they can help Aravind expand the reach of their critical eye care services (and perhaps help spread the vision center of care around other parts of the world.)

It was really interesting!
