Castlecary brickworks

The path under this railway bridge in Allandale leads into Castlecary Low Wood, where I went for a walk for the first time on Monday afternoon  Given that I've lived within a few miles of here for more than 30 years, and have been retired for nine of these years, it's surprising that this was a first visit.

Records (according to an internet search) state that there was once a brickworks here, operated by the Castlecary Fireclay Co Ltd. but, apart from the sign on the railway bridge and parts of the path through the wood being 'paved' with old bricks, little remains of what was once a major industry here for much of the 20th century.
