The wood mistri

Our local carpenter / timber merchant is but a 10m walk away - and horizontally in the main - a real bonus in these places where verticality is the norm. The track to Chichogi is not yet metalled (although rumoured soon) and is accessible by jeep (or Enfield) - which saves a lot of effort when items have to be transported.
We are still missing sets of stairs for the main house. There seems a lot of confusion on this seemingly obvious detail. Local wisdom has it that there is usually a dog leg - and sitting place halfway up.. great for Christopher Robin fans - but not part of the 'Western' plan.. This may necessitate cutting a beam - which seems crazy for our earthquake proof Kathe Kahne stone & 5" beam house.. we shall see.
The local woodman & his wife made us mint tea as we deliberated - I have a feeling that local wisdom may win out.
