Rosca de Reyes

The celebration of Epiphany to enjoy the Rosca de Reyes (sweet bread decorated with slices of candied fruit colors) is a Mexican tradition that takes place 12 days after Christmas on January 6. This tradition of eating together and sharing a rosca de Reyes with hot chocolate (champurrado) to remember the Holy Kings everybody participates and whoever gets the plastic doll (symbolizing Jesus newborn)that is hidden inside the rosca, should have a party on February 2 (Candlemas Day) where Tamales should be served along with other Mexican appetizers. This tradition comes from the middle ages in Europe, mainly from Spain and France and came to Mexico at the time of the early years of the viceroys.
