Tixall Gatehouse and Canal Walk

I met up with few friends for a catch up today. We went for short walk with lunch at the halfway point.

We started off at Milford Common just outside Stafford, walked along the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal, past Tixall Gatehouse. It's a 16th century building, and all that is left of the hall. It's now owned by the Landmark Trust, an organisation which restores and then lets out old properties for holiday rents. We passed a section of the canal called Tixall Wide, which is where the canal widens out! This canal then meets the Trent and Mersey Canal at Great Haywood Junction.

We had lunch at a cafe on the canal side, and returned via the grounds of the Shugborough Estate, once the home of the Earl of Lichfield. The last earl who lived here was the famous photographer Patrick Lichfield.
