Building Community Spirit

Had such a rewarding morning this morning, we haven't had a greenhouse on the allotment since ours was hammered in the great storm of 2013

Having debated and disagreed throughout most of last year as to what greenhouse to get to replace the original one, we finally agreed on this little beauty - strong enough to survive any more windy nights and easy access for our wheelchair bound growers.

As part of the Community Payback scheme, we had several men and a woman helping us to lay the foundations today, as well as weeding our growing bags and mixing the manure into the existing compost.

It is estimated to take 2 to 3 more visits to complete the construction of the greenhouse and weed the rest of the site.

One of the team is already excited about growing food here next season and a couple of the other lads want to see the finished photo documentary I am doing and to join us for our end of season Party on the Plot come Autumn.

It was really nice to see people who are there because they have to be, rather than want to be, enjoying the experience and there was a definite feeling that it was not just the greenhouse being built, but also a sense of community spirit  :)
