Big Eyes

We walked into this restaurant and found we were the only ones there- a disconcerting experience.

It happened to us tonight at the Macrobert arts centre, Stirling. Hopefully things will buck up as the new proprietor Clive Ramsay gets established.

We were there to see Big Eyes, a film based on the true story of the Keanes, an American couple who developed an international reputation with his painting of little girls with Big Eyes, except they were done by his wife.

She finally got the confidence to make a break from her tyrannical partner and the case ended in court when the judge gave them two easels and an hour to produce a painting each. His canvas remained blank.

He died penniless while she still paints, lives in San Francisco, and has her own gallery.

Proof yet again that fact can be stranger than fiction.
