Vanilla Ices- Christchurch Icon.....

Its interesting how things spark interesting memories-I guess I'm getting old. My mother used to tell stories how during the war she would get an icecream from the cart for lunch everyday. That was 75 +years ago.
‘Ice Cream Charlie’ operated a well-known ice cream cart in Cathedral Square for much of the first half of the twentieth century. He was renowned for his friendly nature and delicious ice cream which he sold for most of the year from his cart. He was actually Sali Mahomet and of Pakistani descent,(they think) He started in 1903.The present owners have just reopened in Victoria Square since the earthquakes. It is lovely to see them. This was a Sunday treat for me today!!!!!
