Oor Charlie

On the front page of the Sunday Post is a message of support from Scotland’s most iconic cartoon character (Oor Wullie) to all who value the right to freedom of expression.

Today the world is united in its grief over the horrors in France and defiant in the face of threats to our most basic, cherished liberties.

The magazine Charlie Hebdo has a long history of satirising people of all persuasions – Christians, Jews, politicians and the famous.

The Sunday Post's own cartoonists have lampooned many over the years. Oor Wullie and the Broons frequently did battle with the twin evils of Hitler and Mussolini during the Second World War.

I hope today's Unity Rally in central Paris goes off without any incident. With over a million people marching in solidarity against terrorism, it will be a very emotional day. Prime Minister, David Cameron, will take part in a street demonstration for the first time in his life. “The Charlie Hebdo murders will not crush our spirit or our values,” he tweeted on his way to Paris.

We are all together in this fight for the core values that define our society.
