camping in the woods

Once on the mountains the choice of campsite locations was really limited! Some planning before leaving Greece made sure that we found this campsite within a national park, Biogradska Gora (on the eastern part of Montenegro, close to the border with Serbia). Deep inside the woods near a lake and with easy reach to the mountain trails, it was an absolutely magnificent location but for two disadvantages. One was the lack of showers in the campsite. Nothing was provided so we went without for about 4 days, something truly horrible, until we rented a bungalow for a night just to clean up. The other disadvantage was the mosquitoes. Heading for the mountains I thought that we wouldn?t encounter any. How wrong I was!!! Around dusk there would be some truly ravenous mosquitoes out for blood, even to the point of trying to bite through our clothes to get to the food. Still, it was here that we met the friendliest person, all through Montenegro we met some really good people (well with one exception which I?ll describe later) ! The Italian-Montenegrin owner of the local restaurant in the national park was a really amazing guy. Over a few beers in the evening we would go into long ?philosophical? conversations. Funny thing is that he would usually speak Italian where, as we didn?t spoke Italian ourselves, we would reply in either English or some Spanish (that I knew). Still somehow the meaning carried through!!!
