Porty People and Nearby Places

At least 1.5 million took to the streets of Paris this afternoon.

I estimated at least 1500 people gathered in the gardens in front of  the French Consulate here in Edinburgh.

The vigil lasted over half an hour and concluded with the emotional rendition of the names of the 17 victims  of last week's assasinations., Two minutes of silence and the haunting melody of the lone piper's lament, echoing above the forest of pens and pencil held so proudly aloft by us all, concluded the very moving tribute.

The sense of solidarity at this event was tangible. Somehow the cold  wind, following this morning's sleet, and snow on the hills, seemed totally inconsequential.
