Maunakea and Maunaloa (Big Island) . . .

. . .   dusted with snow, from Haleakala, Maui.
Haleakala is spectacular in its own right!  I have only ever
been up for the sunrise, so coming up mid-day was something.
If you had planned it, we couldn't have had a better day.
Went right up to Haleakala 10,000 feet, above the clouds!
The day was cool in the shade, bright sunshine, blue sky . . .
Silverswords (hinahina) shining in the sun.
Enjoyed a packed lunch at the summit; encountered a bike
rider, first time up ! and stoked that he'd made it !  Bike tours
are offered to go down the winding roads on the mountain, but
not often do you see bikers peddling up.
Then to Ho'okipa to watch the surfers and sunset.
Caught sight of a large turtle caught briefly on the reef.
Then out to dinner and me away to the airport to return to
Honolulu.
Decadent one day trip - and loved every minute of it !
