Stormy Lagoon

We left Hué in the normal grey overcast weather but as we headed South the sky gradually lightened and eventually we even saw THE SUN for the first time in 2 weeks in Vietnam.

It turns out that our guide is a keen photographer (he's a Canon user too!) and he took us on a detour to this lagoon near Lang Co where they grow oysters.   A long exposure would have been good but I don't have a tripod with me.

It's not quite the same as the Allonby oyster beds as they grow the oysters on old motorcycle tyres of which they have plenty in Vietnam.   The oysters apparently have a liking for these and when they recover the tyres from the water after a few months they are covered in oysters.  I hope it doesn't give them a funny taste - they are already rubbery!

We are now in Hoi An south of Da Nang.  On the way we drove over the beautiful Hai Van pass which around these parts is known as 'Top Gear Pass' due to featuring in the recent Vietnam motorcycle tour by the Top Gear trio.

This is front line country in the American battles with the Viet Cong.   Our guide was very knowledgeable as his mother was apparently a Viet Cong medic in what they call 'The American War' in these parts.

Hoi An town is lovely and we are staying in a beachfront hotel where stormy Pacific seas are crashing 10 metres from our room.  It's really windy.  Fingers crossed that it will settle in the 2 days we are here.
