New Year, New Life

Viaduct Pond

Managed to get over to the Heath again today between the showers.  Was almost home before it started to rain.
Ironically, the Viaduct pond won't be affected by the new dam works (assuming they go ahead, Camden Council have to decide the planning application on Thursday.)  Ironic, as the viaduct is a remnant of an 1850s attempt by the then landowner Sir Thomas Maryon Wilson, to develop an estate of 28 sumptuous villas, each in two acres of ground.  The viaduct was built to carry the access road over the swampy valley at this point.  Fortunately for us today this, and several other proposed developments never happened...
Becoming fascinated with this story. Still need to fully understand it.  More walks required!
