Geology

It was so hot today that I went out to the river again for a swim.  A friend has a property on the Buller River that has a few really good swimming spots.

This one is fascinating.  These two 'rocks' are not individual rocks at all but are part of the plate just under them.  The whole thing is one huge rock shelf with these two 'warts' that the river has not worn away.  Either side of this plate the river is a good  6 feet (2 metres) deep.  But up on the plate itself I could paddle just up to my ankles. I managed to get out onto it without getting the camera wet - the plate comes almost to 'shore' at this time of year so it was only about 30cm deep to get onto it from the beach.

A beautiful place to be on a stinking hot day - the wee beach is shaded by the beech forest above it but the water is in the sun.
