The Cambridge Berth from the Crown Pier....

Another view of the harbour because I am ringing at lunchtime and don't have time to go out and about too far. After I took this I dived into the Marks and Spencer food franchise for apples and was pleased to see crates everywhere and the shelves being filled to bursting. On last night's local news they were showing rows of empty shelves in a supermarket with the tagline that the islands were running out of food due to disruption to ferry schedules in the storms. A sure way to create a panic buying spree!

Right in the centre in the distance you can see a building whose upper floor is painted white. That is on the Cambridge Berth and was the office I worked in for two years when I first left school in 1964 and worked for the Natural Beauties Committee (Planning). That was back in the days before dial phones. The Building Inspector's office was a fair distance away on the Albert Pier and sometimes it was quicker to walk around to their office rather than wait for the operator to connect a telephone call. Mobile phones? You must be joking...
