Reaching Out

The passiflora outside our bedroom door is an amazing plant in many ways. Much has been written about their extravagant purple flowers,  but I also find the tendrils fascinating. They shoot out from the ends of the new branches searching for something to grab onto. If there is nothing immediately adjacent to them they will corkscrew, spiral, and reach out toward anything they can fasten themselves to. Although they will climb aggressively up a trellis, through a window or under the porch, if they can't find anything else to attach to, they will often attach to another tendril.

If they don't find anything to attach to, they shrivel and dry up in 24 hours. There must be a metaphor there, but I can't quite formulate it….

I have caught OilMan's cough and am feeling rather bad about giving him so little sympathy. It is quite exhausting and he's been much more understanding than I was.
