Hoegh Osaka

The listing cargo ship  the Hoegh Osaka which was moved to an area between East Cowes and Lee on the Solent  last week survived the overnight storms and today's gale force winds. This report is taken from the local news.

Bad weather has hampered efforts to salvage the ship, however the Maritime and Coastguard Agency has said the vessel stayed in place last night, despite very high winds.

An MCA spokesman said: "Later today salvors will go on board the vessel via helicopter and boat. They will carry out some pump testing and may begin some internal ballasting operations.

"The weather tonight will be windy again, however the forecast from tomorrow will be favourable, meaning that salvors can press on with operations.

"Discussions are underway regarding arrangements for bringing the vessel into port."
