What a k'nob

K'nobs, k'nives, k'nots, k'nuckles & k'nights came with Danish King K'nut I think. The English couldn't pronounce the king's name so he became Canute. My maternal ancestor was King Canute's shield bearer called Stede (the name still used in the family) who was given several 'hides' of land which were called Stedesland. We have a beautifully written 'pedigree' (family tree) to prove it which is contains some wonderful names: Ulph, Holf, Wyan, Crimo, Tranulphus, Thorgen and Lexdan ...
