Isle of Whithorn

Not an island at all!
Its a small pretty fishing port which we visited today on our day trip in the campervan.
The ruins of St Ninian's chapel lie right next to the sea on a rocky outcrop which is covered in tufts of bright sea pinks blowing about in the wind, brave little things, hence the blip
St Ninian was from Solway, he trained in Rome and became a bishop and returned to Whithorn. There is also a cave on the beach which bears his name but I have been unable to find out anything else about him except that he died in 431 and is buried at Isle of Whithorn.
Sunny, blowy and chilly out of the sunshine but we had our picnic tucked up cosily in the van. A great day !
