Murmuration exclamation...

Awe-inspiring, intoxicating, exhilarating....one of the most wonderful wildlife spectacles! Too many photographs of the amazing shifting shapes! In this one the flock is about to be split by a predatory sparrowhawk that went away hungry. 

The visual drama was enough, but was accompanied by the gentle rushing of ten thousand wings...and when they finally roosted in the reeds, the incessant chatter of ten thousand birds greeting and gossiping. As they funneled down to roost we all felt that we wanted to applaud!
