Shedman

Glove me, glove my dog

No Border Collie
he's herded boisterous bullocks
with some success.
No German Shepherd or Rottweiler
he guards against squirrels
with enthusiastic care.
He'll never be a Foxhound
but from the staircase window
enjoys watching Fox TV.
Never a lapdog
but could there be another so heartclose.
Neither Greyhound nor Whippet
yet he always wins for me –
the flow of his golden fleece
his jaunty gait
his being from his nose to tailtip,
even that wolfish drive for food.
He's not a Husky
but he's helped me through dark winter weather.
No St Bernard
it feels at times as if he's saved my life.
Lassie, Scooby, Old Yeller rolled into one
he fits my hand with love.
