Making a mark

Late blip today after a busy day with employment advice, bereavement & children, social media & researching children's views.

Today marks the day John Wilkes was expelled from the House of Commons for salacious slander. An unsavoury character, he was reported to be "extremely ugly and had a dreadful squint but he was very witty." He was a member of the Hell-Fire Club, yes, as bad as it sounds, but was expelled for bad behaviour! He also fought for the right of his voters, rather than the House of Commons, to determine their representatives, he was instrumental in obliging the government to concede the right of printers to publish accounts of parliamentary debates & he introduced the first Bill for parliamentary reform.
