Clematis and the county constabulary

A street in West Kilbride has a wall which is totally overgrown with mingled white and pink montana clematis.

I was standing looking at it yesterday - actually, gawping would be more accurate, as it was so lovely to see - when an elderly and quite perjink lady stopped too.

"Not a thing of beauty, the clematis" she commented. She recommended a good pruning.

I'm too well brought up to disagree openly with someone of age. Each to their own, and so on. But she was talking out a hole in her purple, jaunty-angled bunnet.

Further down the same road, the former police station had a much more genteel display going on.
