To Plant Out

You may be wondering why it is necessary to re-plant raspberries.

Well my last lot were beginning to come down with a virus disease.  It was time for them to be dug up and a fresh start to be made on new ground.

This has been quite a long term plan.  A new fruit cage was constructed last autumn.  It was made out of a re-cycled polytunnel frame.

I got word that the new canes had arrived and so it was necessary to get them planted quite quickly before the ground froze.

They are planted on ridges with a good lot of compost beneath.

The varieties are good Scottish ones: Glen Clova and Glen Ample.

They are both reputed to have good resistance to disease.
