All Change

Recent storms damaged shop sign of number 31 and 32 Bruntsfield Place, we saw it being removed this morning. This has uncovered an interesting series of the previous occupants - at number 31 were Traders (of what I have yet to discover), who were replaced by an 'essin', possibly '...dressing'? and gentlemen's outfitters 'Suits 2 Suit' followed them. The present occupant, Davison's Kilt Hire took the property next.
At number 32 appears what may be original, in gilded lettering the sign of J M Bell, Fruiterer and Confectioner, unfortunately this is tucked under the later framework and difficult to photograph.
A trawl through the Post Office street directories shows that in 1903 a grocer William Dickson and a cabinet maker David R Bain were in nos. 31 and 32 respectively.
