Film Studio Celebrates 60 years!
Our film studio celebrates 60 years of showing films in Härnösand, and we are the biggest in Sweden with around 600 members. We see the films in our rather poshly appointed theatre and sit in comfy seats with the most modern technology all around us. Sometimes there are oddities, such as seeing The Grand Budapest Hotel in Thai with Swedish subtitles. Unexpected is one word for that evening.
The films tend to be ones that won't otherwise be screened in town, and there is usually an interesting mix of foreign language films too. This evening was an hour longer than usual and began with nibbles and a little drink (standard issue "cider" non alcoholic and very sweet) and an exhibition of old posters to enjoy as we mingled. It was so lovely to see these huge printed posters and I fell for this one.
We had a talk by Johan Croneman, the film critic for DN one of the Stockholm dailies. He was interesting and he also chose the extra film we saw this evening - "Taking Off" Milos Forman's first film in the USA. Carly Simon, Tina Turner and Cathy Bates all made passing appearances and there was a lot of music throughout. And drugs. And generational missunderstandings. And laughs! Worth tracking down.
