Case Moth

As a child I found these cases fascinating and I still do. The caterpillar of the case moth (Oeceticus omnivorous) constructs a case using silk and plant matter and during the day the case is sealed and suspended from a twig or any other suitable horizontal surface. At night the caterpillar transports the case around while it feeds on leaves. I discovered this case on a kowhai tree.
