Akaroa

Tekapo is famous for two things - the glacial blue of the lake and Mount John Observatory. M was lucky enough to be allowed a look through one of the telescopes at the sun and could see the solar flares.

We are now in beautiful Akaroa, originally a French settlement nestled below Christchurch, the other side of the Banks Peninsula.
Akaroa is set on an inlet from the sea. 26° today, M is out walking another hill and am going out on an old wooden ketch dolphin watching.
Aaaaah, this is the life!

The picture l have used today is Akaroa and shows the original old wooden jetty, the tree to the right is a native tree called Pohutukawa and is known as the NZ Christmas tree as it always shows it beautiful red flowers at Christmas.
