Life through the lens...

By ValC

First of the year!

As you can see we still have snow, but our friends, who used to live in South Africa, undaunted by the weather, cooked us some delicious pork on their "braai".
Never heard of a braai?
Well it is from the word   braaivleis   which is Afrikaans for roasted meat, and pronounced "bry".
Not only reserved for Summer Days, and always charcoal, and never gas!
It had been cooking for about 3 hours. Tasted delicious!  Very moist and succulent, also wonderful crackling.
This is the first time I have had a BBQ so early in the year, and in the snow.
We did, however, eat inside!!
J actually cooked their turkey for Christmas dinner this way as well! I would never have thought it possible.
I wonder if anyone else has cooked a turkey this way ?
Spent a wonderful day with them. Excellent company, and good food and wine.
Thanks to them both.
