Blue Sky Thinking

I have mentioned before the opportunity that running provides to get some important thinking time. Not sure whether its something to do with the increased intake of oxygen that stimulates the mind or simply the peace and quite of being away from domestic routines.

It may also have something to do with trying to switch your mind off from being out of breath and feeling generally knackered! I have also noticed that when its cold wet and windy you have to try even harder to switch your mind off from the impact of the weather. The mind is probably trying to say to you "what on earth are you doing out running in these conditions you daft fool"! Instead of listening to such common sense thought, you put them to the back of your mind and think about something else. It is at times like this that I find my clarity of thought is at its best and the solutions to problems seem much easier to work out.

However, the flip side of the coin is that on days liken today when its bright and sunny, the birds are singing their hearts out and the countryside is full of the scents of wild flowers, serious thinking is impossible. There are simply far too many distractions, especially when you are a blipper. Everywhere you look there are blip opportunities or you are enjoying the run that much you simply don't want to engage with serious thoughts!

For me blue skies are not the best time for deep thinking, more a time to soak up the beauty of my surroundings and, of course, blip!
