Beavers

This may be very far from my most artistic photograph, but it marks a very special event for me.  Near where we live in the Netherlands there is a small nature reserve based on the area alongside the river Maas -  really intended to anchor the banks of the river and minimize risk of flooding.  There are signs in this area explaining that Beavers were once released in this area and you should keep a look out in case you see one.

Well of course no one ever sees one and it has become a standing joke with me and my wife to walk in this area and watch out for a wild beaver. But against all odds in the last few weeks there is evidence of at least one beaver thriving in the area, the little pointy stump between the two trees is the remains if a small tree bitten off by a beaver. You can see the teeth marks on the tree and you have to admire and wonder at the tenacity of a little animal to set off to chew through a tree , knowing somehow that this will  help him secure a food supply - to me absolutely astonishing
