Life in Newburgh on Ythan

The flowers from Brazil

It's very cold outside and I am suffering from an excess of Haggis at last night's Burns' Supper. So, an indoor blip today.

A friend gave us this plant some time ago, she didn't know what it is, nor did we. But having chosen it as my blip today I had to try and identify it and thanks to my old pal Google I think I have succeeded. It is, I think, Nematanthus tropicana, a hybrid of  N. perianthomegus and N. radicans.

Nematanthus, it seems,  is a genus of about 30 trailing or climbing sub-shrubs from tropical South America. They are often called "goldfish" plants or "clog plants", referring to the shape of the flowers in shades of red, orange and yellow.
