West Norwood blips

There was a hole in the space-time continuum in central London today - back to the English Civil War...

I couldn't decide which photo to blip so I'm posting a selection to give a flavour of the costumes (and weapons) on parade. The 'English Civil War Re-enactment Society' held a parade and ceremony this morning to commemorate the execution of Charles I in 1649. (Apparently they do it every year but I'd never heard about it before.) I overheard numerous conversations where people were trying to explain to very confused tourists why there was a rag-tag 'army' on the Mall! The Civil War Society re-enact various battles of the civil war period but what everyone seemed to be conveniently ignoring was that had the Royalists held this parade and memorial at the time, they'd all have been arrested by Cromwell!

It made for a good chance to practice taking portraits of some of the (probably about) 300 participants. More photos from watching photographers (mostly not mine) here
