Passio Musicae (The Sibelius Monument)

The sculptor, Eila Hiltunen, created the monument as her entry to an international competition which saw entries from some 50 artists.

It was a two stage competition, and initially Hiltunen's entry was a cause of concern and disagreement.  However, it was recommended as the best entry by an international jury.

Although originally very abstract, the finished piece had been revised and it also had the addition of a portrait of Jean Sibelius himself.
