Teaching

Out-of-the-ordinary day at work today! I was teaching high school kids from The Bronx how to extract DNA, amplify it and visualize it (here is them loading a gel for electrophoresis). And telling them about a life in science on the side. How much fun this is! It's so inspiring to see the kids, hear their questions.... It was also fun to see how much and also how little has changed. 11 years ago I pretty much gave the exact same class to high school students all over NL. The basics stayed the same, but some details used to be so new, and are now common place (or these students we just very knowledgable!). All in all, it was a really fun day and I will definitely do this more often!
