Bridge 48

One of my sequence of shots of the Stratford on Avon to Kings Norton Canal and beyond. Situated just to south of the A4189 between Henley in Arden and Warwick you can just make out the new bridge for the main road through the archway.

Most of the original bridges built along this waterway didn't have a footpath under the archway and the horses which towed the barges were taken through the gate and crossed the track and down to the footpath on the other side, to save having to undo the tow rope the line was threaded through the gap between the two black handrails and the ramps which can be seen here.
