Privet Hawk Moth.

Found two of these in my garden tonight.  One on each of my Jasmine bushes.  Needless to say there is not much of my Jasmine left now.  As the name suggest they are supposed to eat Privet bushes, I don't have any, so I suppose the next best thing was my Jasmine.

When they become moths they have a 12cm wingspan, so they are pretty big.

Earlier in the week, my husband found another kind of moth eating one of my gardenias in the front garden.

(This one reminds me of the caterpillar in Alice in Wonderland)
