Wanderings & Witterings

Cygnus cygnus

Our Tuesday's Ramblers' group walk took us through Cardowan Moss Local Nature Reserve, near Stepps, and then round Hogganfield Loch at Millerston.

Hogganfield Loch is home to many species of birds and feeding the swans is a popular pastime (it seems) to many people, young and old. As we took our mid-walk break at the western end of the loch, a number of people came up to feed the birds and so provided me with an opportunity to take lots of photos of the feeding swans. Admittedly it was a bit of a feeding frenzy - for the swans, not the Ramblers I add quickly! - but this photo shows one of the whooper swans (cygnus cygnus) amongst a group of mute swans (cygnus olor).
